ADHD is one of the most common behavioral health disorders in the United States today. It is marked by a long-term pattern of hyperactivity-impulsivity or inattention-distractability that can significantly interfere with functioning. Many professionals believe that the best course of treatment is medication; however, this is not the only treatment option for ADHD. Often times having another diagnosis along with ADHD is the rule, rather than the exception, and addressing confounding issues may be vital to your success. This is why taking into consideration all aspects of a person's life is essential for proper ADHD diagnosis and treatment.

Trauma refers to an overwhelming event that causes a person to respond with extreme fear, helplessness, avoidance, and/or an impaired ability to cope with the circumstances. According to recent National Council for Behavioral Health reports, 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced a significant traumatic incident at some point in their lives. Types of trauma could include: childhood abuse/neglect, accidents or disasters, physical/emotional/or sexual abuse, witnessing war or violence, grief and loss, medical/health complications, or cultural/inter-generational traumas. Prolonged symptoms associated with traumatic circumstances or significant stressors can sometimes be just as devastating as the initial event. Anxiety, fear, hopelessness, depression, sleep disruptions, and somatic complaints are disruptive issues that can linger from post-traumatic events. Therapy can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of healing.
